Governor Kathy Hochul is reportedly preparing to sign a bill that would officially make New York a so-called sanctuary state, effectively protecting illegal alien criminals from deportation.
Critics are warning that this reckless move could turn the Empire State into a magnet for lawbreakers who are fleeing accountability in other parts of the country.
The Department of Homeland Security has already slammed the message coming from Albany.
“The message from Gov Kathy Hochul and her fellow sanctuary politicians is clear: criminal illegal aliens are WELCOME in New York,” a DHS spokesperson said, capturing the outrage shared by many law enforcement leaders who see their hands being tied by progressive lawmakers.

This plan from Hochul follows a long line of liberal sanctuary policies that have eroded cooperation between state and federal law enforcement.
Under the proposed law, local police and sheriffs would be banned from turning over illegal aliens to federal immigration authorities, including violent offenders, sex predators, and gang members already flagged for deportation.
The move is being celebrated by far-left activists who have long pushed New York to defy federal immigration law.
The same progressive groups who lobbied for drivers’ licenses for illegals and taxpayer-funded housing now see the sanctuary bill as their biggest victory yet.

To conservatives and many law enforcement officers, it is more like a surrender flag.
For everyday New Yorkers, this means more danger, not less. Police will have to release repeat offenders who should be deported, forcing communities to live with the consequences.
Cities like New York City, Buffalo, and Rochester are already struggling under waves of migrants sent by the Biden administration’s open border policies, and the situation is expected to deteriorate.
Even Democratic mayors have been begging the state for help, complaining that their social services, shelters, and schools are overwhelmed.
Yet instead of addressing those concerns, Hochul seems intent on proving her credentials with the woke left in her party before the election season heats up.
Her priorities appear to be politics first, public safety last.
WATCH:
Republican lawmakers in the state legislature are furious. They argue that Hochul’s bill blatantly disregards federal law and undermines law enforcement.
Assemblyman Mike Lawler criticized the governor’s plan as “a political stunt that will make New York less safe and drive law enforcement morale into the ground.”
Many sheriffs and county executives across upstate New York have echoed that sentiment, calling the legislation dangerous and irresponsible.
The looming policy would also further alienate rural New York from the Democrat-dominated cities that dictate statewide policy.

Some conservatives have drawn comparisons to historical moments when Democrats pushed policies that divided the country, arguing that the modern party’s obsession with sanctuary politics carries the same disregard for unity and law.
Notably, the bill also includes provisions that block state agencies from sharing information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
That means ICE agents will be essentially blindfolded when trying to track fugitives or criminals who are hiding within New York’s borders.
The law would create legal shields for those who entered the country illegally, putting them on a stronger footing than citizens in some cases.
For law-abiding residents who pay taxes, follow laws, and expect their government to protect them, this is yet another insult.
The Hochul administration’s narrative about “compassion” rings hollow when it comes at the expense of community safety and law enforcement.
Compassion that disregards law and order is not compassion at all; it is chaos.
DHS officials warn that sanctuary policies like this one create a ripple effect through the criminal justice system.
When states refuse to cooperate with federal enforcement, dangerous individuals slip through the cracks, often to commit new crimes.
Real victims pay the price while politicians collect praise from activist groups and campaign donors.
Despite the outcry, Hochul appears unmoved.
She has sided with the far-left faction of her party over the growing chorus of concerned citizens who see the writing on the wall.
From all indications, once she signs this bill into law, New York will officially plant its flag as the nation’s leading sanctuary for those who violate immigration laws.
New York’s proud motto once was “Excelsior,” meaning “ever upward.”
With this latest act of political theater, critics argue the state’s direction looks more like a downward slide into lawlessness.
For those who believe in borders, sovereignty, and safety, Hochul’s New York might soon represent everything wrong with the modern Democrat agenda: reckless, ideological, and completely detached from the real-life consequences faced by ordinary Americans.
