Donald Trump Attacks Rashida Tlaib For Declining Visit To Her Grandma In Israel

President Donald Trump went off on Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib on Friday, accusing her of creating a “setup” when she refused an offer to visit her grandmother in Israel.

The Daily Caller reported that Trump went after Tlaib in a series of Tweets, pointing out that she asked for permission to enter Israel and was later granted it, only to claim that she was treated unfairly by the nation and refusing to go. Trump went so far as to declare Tlaib’s grandmother the “real winner” of the situation since she didn’t have to see her granddaughter.

“Israel was very respectful & nice to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, allowing her permission to visit her ‘grandmother.’ As soon as she was granted permission, she grandstanded & loudly proclaimed she would not visit Israel,” Trump tweeted. “Could this possibly have been a setup? Israel acted appropriately!”

“Rep. Tlaib wrote a letter to Israeli officials desperately wanting to visit her grandmother,” Trump added. “Permission was quickly granted, whereupon Tlaib obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup. The only real winner here is Tlaib’s grandmother. She doesn’t have to see her now!”

This came one day after Israel announced that they would be denying entry to their country to Tlaib and Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar because of the duo’s history of anti-Israel remarks and support for the Boycott, Divest, Sanctions (BDS) movement. Tlaib and Omar’s trip was also sponsored by Miftah, an anti-Israel organization that has expressed support for Palestinian suicide bombers.

“[T]he itinerary of the two Congresswomen reveals that the sole purpose of their visit is to harm Israel and increase incitement against it,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “In addition, the organization that is funding their trip is Miftah, which is an avid supporter of BDS, and among whose members are those who have expressed support for terrorism against Israel.”

Tlaib responded by sending a letter to Israeli officials begging to be allowed into the country so that she could visit her grandmother. She promised to avoid any boycotts during her visit, and she said this was likely the last time she would ever get to see her grandma. Though Israeli officials immediately granted entry to Tlaib, she fired back by refusing to go and accusing Israel of oppressing her.

“Silencing me & treating me like a criminal is not what [my grandmother] wants for me,” Tlaib tweeted. “It would kill a piece of me. I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in–fighting against racism, oppression & injustice.”
