Palm Beach Atlantic University just announced that they are naming First Lady Melania Trump as their Woman of Distinction this year.
The Hill reported that a spokesperson for the private Christian university explained that this award is meant to recognize women for their “charitable leadership of organizations that support the arts, education, healthcare and other community initiatives.” The spokesperson added that this marks the first time that the school has ever given the distinction to a first lady.
Melania is set to be recognized next month at a Women of Distinction luncheon, which the school has been hosting for over twenty years.
“As a Christ-first independent university, Palm Beach Atlantic emphasizes learning, leadership and service with its excellent academics and character-strengthening initiatives such as its nationally recognized community service program called Workship,” the spokesperson said.
Objective reporting for the educated American.
“In fact, Workship, a coined term combining ‘work’ and ‘worship’ dates back to the University’s founding in 1968,” the school representative continued. “To date, students have provided more than 3.5 million hours of volunteer service to non-profits, schools and churches. Palm Beach Atlantic’s emphasis on encouraging the potential of each person aligns with Mrs. Trump’s platform as First Lady.”
All proceeds from the luncheon, which is scheduled for February 16, will be given to a scholarship fund for women. Eileen Burns, one of the chairwomen behind the event, praised Melania, saying the First Lady is “a perfect example of a Woman of Distinction and we are most proud to honor her.”
“Our first lady is an exquisite human being, a magnificent wife and life partner, a superb mother and an outstanding first lady, who represents us brilliantly in the United States and worldwide,” she added.
Frances Fisher, who also will be chairing this year’s event, agreed with this sentiment.
“First ladies define the history of our country,” Fisher said. “We are honored to recognize Mrs. Trump as a Woman of Distinction and the only first lady since Mrs. Kennedy to be a Palm Beach resident. This will be a truly memorable event.”
During her three years as First Lady, Melania has made helping children her main focus. She has launched her “Be Best” campaign, which focuses on both child well-being and cyberbullying.
Melania will undoubtedly touched by this award, as she has received an astonishingly small amount of honors since becoming First Lady. Despite her long history as a model, she has yet to appear on a magazine cover since moving into the White House, which is unprecedented for a First Lady three years in.
