Joe Biden Tells South Carolina Crowd That He Would Invite Michelle Obama To Be His VP ‘In A Heartbeat’

During a campaign stop in South Carolina, former Vice President Joe Biden told a crowd that he would invite Michelle Obama to be his running mate “in a heartbeat,” if he thought she’d accept the offer.

“I’d do that in a heartbeat if I’d think there’d be any chance of her doing it,” Biden said when asked about the possibility, according to Daily Mail.

Biden went on to point out that Michelle has previously said that she has no interest in politics.

“Michelle as I say has given at the office. She’s done a great deal and she is still doing a great deal for people,” Biden said, adding that being out of the White House is something Barack and Michelle Obama find “somewhat liberating after eight years.”

This comes as calls have been growing for the eventual 2020 Democratic presidential nominee to make Michelle their running mate. In a tweet that quickly went viral, Star Wars actor Mark Hamill made the plea for Michelle to become Vice President.

“I hope whoever becomes the Democratic presidential nominee will consider Michelle Obama as their running mate,” he wrote.

When liberals begged Michelle to run for president last summer, she said there was “zero chance” that she’d do it, as she had no interest in politics.

“Just between us, and the readers of this magazine — there’s zero chance,” Michelle told The National about the chances that she’d run. “There are so many ways to improve this country and build a better world, and I keep doing plenty of them, from working with young people to helping families lead healthier lives. But sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office will never be one of them. It’s just not for me.”

Michelle has repeatedly denied having any interest in becoming president, but she has never said anything about what she would say if asked to be Vice President. Though she claims to have no interest in politics, it would not be the first time someone entered a political race after denying that he or she would do so. After all, her own husband denied that he would run for president in the months and years before he launched his successful presidential campaign in 2008.
