Last month, the British television personality Piers Morgan was one of the few public figures to defend the royal family in the wake of Meghan Markle’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. In fact, Morgan quit his job hosting “Good Morning Britain” rather than apologize on air for criticizing Meghan.
Now, Morgan is speaking out to claim that he was personally thanked by members of the royal family for having their back against Meghan.
Morgan claimed to Extra that over the past few weeks, “some messages communicated to me” from “members of the royal family.” He then played it coy when he was asked if these messages came from “upper-level people” in the royal family.
“Well, I’m not going to go into who it was, but what I can say is, gratitude for someone who was standing up for me,” he said.
Objective reporting for the educated American.
Morgan was later asked what he would say to Meghan if he could talk to her:
“I would say to Meghan Markle, ‘Look… sit down with me with your husband for an equally long interview… and let me ask you more difficult questions about all your claims… but let me ask you a wider question, which is this… If you hate the royal family that much… why do you keep your royal titles…? Why would you do that if it’s just not to make millions and millions of dollars…? And playing the victim as you do is nauseating,” he replied.
After everything that has happened, Morgan said that he only has one regret from this entire situation.
“The only thing I would have done differently,” he said, “I wouldn’t have walked out in the middle of the show the way I did; I don’t think Americans realized it was only for a few minutes and I went back in, and did two more hours of the show.”
Morgan also wanted to make it clear that he is not a racist, and that it is not racist to criticize Meghan simply because she is a woman of color.
“I’m not a racist — nothing I’ve ever said about Meghan Markle is racist or racially motivated,” he concluded. “I’ve been very critical of Prince Harry, and last time I checked he was white… and so I find this narrative deeply offensive.”
Meghan made a series of shocking claims in her interview with Oprah, alleging that she was a victim of racism from within the royal family. She went so far as to claim that things got so bad that she became suicidal at one point, an allegation that Morgan did not believe.
