Meghan Markle And Prince Harry’s Choice Of Name For Their Daughter Is ‘Rude’ To The Queen, Royal Expert Alleges

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on Sunday that they had welcomed their second child, a baby girl they named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, two days before on Friday, June 4. While the couple said that they chose this name because they wanted to name their little girl after both Queen Elizabeth and the late Princess Diana, a royal expert is now speaking out to claim that the name choice was actually “rude” to her majesty.

Daily Mail reported that the 95 year-old Queen was given the nickname Lilibet by King George V, her grandfather, when she was a toddler because she could not pronounce the name Elizabeth at the time. Her husband of 73 years Prince Philip also used it until he died back in April at the age of 99, and it is believed that nobody living today refers to the Queen by the treasured nickname.

When asked if the Queen would be happy about Meghan and Harry naming their daughter Lilibet, royal biographer Angela Levin replied, “Not after what’s happened, I think she’s desperately unhappy because they were desperately rude about her. I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it’s quite rude to her Majesty the Queen.”

“It was a very private nickname from her husband who hasn’t been dead for very long. Prince Charles would never dream of referring to his mother as Lilibet. He’s never used it – it was a special name, especially for the the Duke of Edinburgh,” Levin continued, going on to say that it was “demeaning” for Meghan and Harry to choose this name.

Journalist Afua Adom, who was part of the same panel as Levin to discuss this, fired back to defend Meghan and Harry, however.

“To say the Queen would be unhappy is frankly ridiculous. It’s a bit of a nod to Meghan’s mother Doria as well, her nickname for Meghan is flower,” Adam said. “It’s also a bit of a stretch to say that the Queen is fuming that her great grandchild is named after her. I think it’s a nod of affection.”

British television personality Piers Morgan fell more into the Levin side of thinking, as he thought it was “ironic” that Meghan and Harry would pay homage to the Queen after all they have done the past few months.

“It’s quite ironic, isn’t it,” Morgan said. “You have this couple who have been trashing the royal family and the monarchy for the last few weeks and they have named the baby after the Queen, who is, of course, the head of the royal family and the monarchy.”

“Maybe it’s their way of reaching out — as the Americans say — to the royals and wanting some kind of end to this on-running feud,” he added.

The Queen has only addressed Lilibet’s birth in a brief statement released through Buckingham Palace.

“The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” the statement read, according to Insider.
