Border Czar Tom Homan defended the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts, rejecting criticism from members of Congress and arguing that federal officers are simply carrying out the laws lawmakers themselves enacted.
Homan addressed calls for investigations into immigration officers by stressing that enforcement actions are grounded in statute and constitutional authority.
“Well, come get some I mean, bottom line, we’re just enforcing laws that Congress enacted,” Homan said.
“And for a member of Congress here, we’re going to investigate officers for enforcing laws we wrote. That’s just ridiculous.”

Homan said the administration has no intention of backing down from enforcement operations and emphasized that immigration officers are acting within the scope of federal law.
“So look, you know, bottom line is we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing, we’ve got the law behind us,” he said.
“And you know, in the bottom line is, we’re making this country safe again.”

He credited President Donald Trump with fulfilling campaign promises related to border security and immigration enforcement, arguing that those commitments were central to Trump’s reelection.
“President Trump promised the American people we’re going to enforce immigration law,” Homan said.
“And that’s and that’s probably one of the main reasons they reelected him, you know, by overwhelming majority.”
Homan said the administration’s enforcement record demonstrates that those promises are being kept.
“So bottom line is, President Trump kept his promise,” he said.
“We got the most secure border in history, the nation. We are running the biggest deportation operations country has ever seen.”
Addressing criticism from Democrats and immigration activists, Homan disputed claims that enforcement actions are broadly targeting noncriminal populations.
He said the majority of those arrested have criminal backgrounds.
“And despite what the left says, about 70% of those we arrest are criminals,” Homan said.
He explained that the remaining individuals taken into custody also present serious concerns for national security or immigration enforcement.
“The other 30% are national security threats that don’t have criminal histories,” Homan said.
“And there are people with final orders who had due process at great taxpayer expense or order removed became fugitives.”
Homan said that when immigration officers are searching for criminal suspects, encounters with other illegal aliens are unavoidable, particularly when local jurisdictions refuse to cooperate with federal authorities.
“And yes, we’re arresting illegal aliens when we’re out there looking for criminals,” he said.
He argued that cooperation from local governments could significantly reduce what critics describe as collateral arrests.
“You want less collateral arrests, than let us in the damn jail?” Homan said.

Some lawmakers have called for investigations into federal immigration officers, while the administration has maintained that enforcement actions are lawful and necessary for public safety.
The Trump administration has repeatedly emphasized that immigration enforcement is a core federal responsibility and that border security is tied to broader concerns about crime, national security, and the rule of law.
