A Republican candidate for Mecklenburg County Commission said his home in the Charlotte, North Carolina area was struck by gunfire Monday night while he was inside with his family, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

According to WSOC-TV, between seven and 10 shots were fired toward the Huntersville residence of Aaron Marin, who is running again for county commissioner. Marin was inside the home at the time with his wife and their two young sons.

Marin’s children had been playing in the driveway shortly before the gunfire erupted.

Bullets struck multiple areas of the property, including the family’s vehicles, a tree, the mailbox, and the children’s basketball court. When officers arrived at the scene, they located shell casings scattered throughout the driveway.

The Huntersville Police Department and Crime Scene investigators responded to the incident and are investigating it as a drive-by shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Marin released a statement addressing the attack, describing the shots as deliberate.

“Last night, while I am running again for County Commissioner, our home was struck by multiple gunshots. The shots were intentionally directed only at our house. At the time, I was inside with my wife and our two young sons. By God’s grace, we are all safe and unharmed — but as a husband and father, there are no words to describe the shock of hearing gunfire directed at your home. We are deeply shaken and stunned that something like this could happen in Huntersville — the community where we are raising our family and have always believed to be safe and strong. The Huntersville Police Department and Crime Scene responded immediately. We are grateful for their swift response and the professionalism of our local law enforcement. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from speculation and allow law enforcement to complete their work. Violence has no place in our community or in our political process. Differences must be resolved peacefully, through dialogue and the democratic process — not through violence. I will not be intimidated. My commitment to serving Mecklenburg County and protecting our community remains stronger than ever. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support and prayers.”

Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects or disclosed a possible motive. Police have not said whether the shooting was politically motivated.
