White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller said Minnesota jails and prisons will comply with federal immigration law following what he described as an unlawful directive issued by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.
Miller stated that Ellison had previously ordered correctional institutions in the state not to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in certain cases involving criminal and legal aliens.
“The corrupt Attorney General, Keith Ellison in Minnesota, issued an edict requiring, unlawfully, requiring all jails and prisons in the state to shield harbor and conceal criminal and legal aliens from ICE and so with this agreement, those jails and those prisons are no longer going to obey the unlawful edict issued by Keith Ellison,” Miller said.

He added that the institutions would now follow federal law.
“Instead, they're going to follow federal law, the supreme law of the land, and hand over those criminally illegal aliens,” Miller said.
Miller credited President Trump and federal law enforcement agencies for immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota and nationwide.

“Let's take a moment to celebrate the fact that, because of President Trump, because of ICE, because of border patrol, 1000s of pedophiles, rapists, gang bangers, killers, murderers, the true most violent people on the planet have been removed from the state of Minnesota,” he said.
Miller argued that those removals have contributed to improved public safety.
“Kids are safer, families are safer, communities are safer,” he said.
He also linked immigration enforcement efforts to broader national crime trends.

“There is a reason why murder in this country is the lowest rate on record. There is a reason why we have seen the largest ever reduction in violent crime. It's because President Trump has unleashed federal law enforcement, including ICE, including Border Patrol, to find, identify, remove or incarcerate the drivers of violent crime in this country,” Miller said.
He concluded by stating, “And now 1000s of lives are being saved as a result.”
