Two people were killed, and at least one other was injured in a shooting Thursday night at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, as reported by The New York Post.
The university confirmed the incident in an official statement and said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading the investigation into the shooting.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two individuals who were killed. The condition of the injured person has also not been made public.

According to the university, a campus lockdown was issued at approximately 9:15 p.m. Thursday after officials received a report of a shooting inside an apartment at the Hugine Suites student residential complex.

The complex is part of the university’s on-campus housing.
As of 1 a.m., the campus remained under lockdown while law enforcement officers continued to secure the area and conduct their investigation.
South Carolina State University’s Department of Public Safety is being assisted by the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers from those agencies are patrolling both on and around the campus as the investigation continues.

University officials announced that Friday classes have been canceled in response to the shooting. The school also stated that counseling services are being made available for students affected by the incident.
The university has not released details regarding a possible suspect or what may have led to the shooting. It has also not confirmed whether the victims were students.
SLED has not provided additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and authorities have not indicated whether any arrests have been made.
South Carolina State University, a public historically Black university located in Orangeburg, enrolls thousands of students each year and maintains multiple on-campus residential facilities, including Hugine Suites, where the shooting occurred.

Law enforcement officials are expected to provide further updates as the investigation develops. For now, campus security remains heightened, and additional patrols are in place while authorities work to determine what happened.
