Whoopi Goldberg discussed her personal life and views on relationships during a recent episode of “The View,” where the longtime co-host openly described her approach to being single and her lack of interest in traditional commitments, as reported by Page Six.
The conversation aired on Wednesday and began with Goldberg referencing an article published in Cosmopolitan.
“A woman wrote an article in Cosmopolitan, admitting that she fantasizes about being single even though she’s in a very happy long-term relationship,” Goldberg said during the segment.

“She writes that sometimes, she finds herself missing the days of casual flings and bar-hopping,” Goldberg added, prompting laughter from the studio audience.
Goldberg then turned to her fellow panelists for their reactions. Co-host Joy Behar responded by asking, “Do you miss those days?”

Goldberg replied directly, stating, “I am single,” before elaborating on her lifestyle.
“Yeah, I bar hop, I go hang! And I do hit and runs when I need it.”
She continued by explaining that her current situation allows her to avoid the responsibilities tied to long-term relationships. “I am not married to anybody, I don’t have responsibility,” Goldberg said.
During the discussion, Goldberg pointed out that her co-hosts — Behar, Sara Eisen, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro — all have commitments in their personal lives.

“Okay, so you four have responsibilities,” she said. “And the question is, do you ever miss the single life?”
Haines responded that while she does sometimes miss aspects of being single, it is not related to nightlife. Instead, she said she misses having uninterrupted personal time.
“A binge where I can sit and eat ice cream, and no one’s watching, and watch whatever I damn want,” Haines said.
“I love being the center of my own world,” she added.
Navarro also commented on the topic, stating that “it’s a good life” when her husband, Al Cárdenas, is away.
Goldberg’s comments on the show reflect positions she has expressed previously. During a May 2024 appearance on “The Don Lemon Show,” she spoke in similar terms about her personal preferences and her approach to relationships.
“I am fundamentally a selfish person, and I’ve found that because I have a wonderful kid and a son-in-law and three grandkids and one great-grand[kid], that I don’t have time for a whole lot of other people coming into my life,” Goldberg said during that interview.
She also stated, “Hit and runs are great, I don’t mind those,” adding, “But, you can’t spend the night.” When asked whether such encounters still occur, Goldberg responded, “Oh yeah.”

Goldberg addressed public perceptions about her lifestyle and said she had to come to terms with her own preferences.
“You have this whole line of words that are stacked up in your head about what you are if you say a hit and run is where you want to be, and you don’t want to be married,” she said.
“What I didn’t realize was that I had figured it out,” she continued.
“I just was surprised by the fact that I didn’t really want it, but I liked to hit and run. And my mother said, ‘well maybe you should just throw a party from now and on and not get married anymore.’”
Goldberg, 70, also discussed her perspective on marriage, stating that she does not have the patience for the demands of a long-term partnership. “It requires a lot,” she said. “I want to see you when I see you, and then you go.”
The actress has been married three times. She was married to Alvin Martin from 1973 to 1979, with whom she shares a daughter, Alexandra. She later married David Claessen from 1986 to 1988 and Lyle Trachtenberg from 1994 to 1995.
Goldberg’s remarks on “The View” come as part of a broader conversation on modern relationships and personal independence, with each co-host offering their own perspective on balancing commitments and individual freedom.
