Rep. Yassamin Ansari announced Monday that she plans to file articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, citing alleged war crimes tied to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, as reported by Fox News.
Ansari, a Democrat whose parents fled Iran during the rule of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, said she intends to pursue impeachment proceedings next week.
Her announcement comes as tensions remain high following military operations involving the United States and Israel earlier this year.

According to previous remarks she made to The New York Times, Ansari said she initially "felt a rush of hope, but also unease" when she learned that American and Israeli forces had eliminated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in February.
Since then, she has criticized how the Trump administration has handled the conflict.
In a statement announcing her plan, Ansari pointed to comments made by President Donald Trump, including an Easter message directed at Iranian leadership, warning them to "open the f---ing Strait" of Hormuz by Tuesday or face strikes on critical infrastructure.
"Donald Trump’s deranged statements — including one on Easter Sunday — are further entrenching our country and our world in another devastating, never-ending war," Ansari said.

She also claimed that the administration has engaged in actions that violate international law.
Ansari stated that Trump is threatening war crimes in violation of the Geneva Convention and referenced "illegal actions and atrocities already committed at his direction — including violence that has destroyed schools, hospitals, and critical civilian infrastructure."
"As the daughter of Iranian immigrants who fled this regime, and as an American Congresswoman who swore an oath to the United States Constitution, I know that this cannot go on."
Details about her family background have been previously reported, noting that her father was studying medicine in the United States when the Iranian Revolution began and could not return to Iran.
Her mother, according to reports, fled the country and was sent to live with another family in Delaware at age 17 after restrictions on women intensified under the Khomeini regime.
Ansari said she would also support invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office while moving forward with impeachment proceedings against Hegseth.
She accused the defense secretary of "repeatedly violat[ing] his oath of office and his duty to the Constitution. Only Congress has the power to declare war, not a rogue president or his lackeys."

"Hegseth’s reckless endangerment of U.S. servicemembers and repeated war crimes, including bombing a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, and willfully targeting civilian infrastructure, are grounds for impeachment and removal from office," she said.
The announcement comes after recent military developments, including the rescue of a U.S. airman who had been shot down by Iranian forces over the weekend.
The operation was described by Trump as a large-scale effort carried out under his direction.
Gen. Dan Caine, known as "Raizin," declined to provide details on troop levels involved in the operation, citing security concerns.

The Pentagon responded sharply to Ansari’s announcement. Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson told Fox News Digital that the impeachment effort was politically motivated.
"Just another Democrat trying to make headlines" during a time when U.S. forces were engaged in ongoing operations in the Middle East, Wilson said, referencing both the broader military campaign and two recent rescue missions described as "daring and successful."
"Secretary Hegseth will continue to protect the homeland and unleash epic fury on Iran’s radical regime," Wilson added.
"This is just another charade in an attempt to distract the American people from the major successes we have had here at the Department of War."
Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to the White House for comment.
