A Democratic candidate in Florida is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he allegedly attacked two elderly individuals inside a Palm Coast residence, with investigators also reviewing threats made during the incident, as reported by The Blaze.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Friday morning to a 911 call reporting what officials described as “a domestic disturbance with a weapon.”

The call originated from a home in Palm Coast, where the caller alleged that an armed suspect had assaulted two elderly victims inside the residence.

The caller, who was identified as one of the victims, told authorities the suspect “had battered two elderly victims in the home — hitting one with a cane and throwing a cellphone at the other.”

The sheriff’s office also said the suspect “had threatened to kill them multiple times and stated he would kill law enforcement if they were called.”

Officials said the victims were unable to leave the residence because one of them was “bedridden,” forcing both individuals to remain inside a bedroom until deputies arrived.

Law enforcement was able to safely evacuate the victims from the home without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Kevin Cichowski.

Body camera footage later obtained and shared by the New York Post showed Cichowski speaking to deputies during his arrest.

In the video, he referenced his mother and father while being escorted from the home in handcuffs.

Authorities noted that while they did not officially confirm the relationship between the suspect and the victims, the two individuals are believed to be his parents.

“I can't believe this is happening,” Cichowski said in the footage as he was led out of the residence.

“I haven't done anything wrong,” he added. “This is insane.”

Cichowski now faces a series of charges, including two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of battery on a person over 65, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with a witness, and two counts of robbery by sudden snatching.

During transport to jail, the sheriff’s office said Cichowski expressed suicidal ideation.

As a result, he was detained under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows authorities to hold individuals experiencing a mental health episode if they are considered a threat to themselves or others.

Jail records show that Cichowski remained in custody as of Monday evening.

Authorities also noted that Cichowski had a prior arrest in 2024 involving charges of domestic battery, domestic battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment.

In addition to the criminal case, the sheriff’s office highlighted Cichowski’s involvement in Florida politics.

In a social media post, the agency stated, “Cichowski is running for election for Governor of Florida. Cichowski previously ran for Palm Coast mayor in 2021.”

State records confirm that Cichowski filed as a Democratic candidate in the Florida gubernatorial race on March 24.

His entry into the race came as a crowded Democratic field was already forming, including former Rep. David Jolly and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

A poll released after Cichowski entered the race showed him receiving minimal support.

Neither Cichowski’s campaign nor the Florida Democratic Party responded to requests for comment from Blaze News regarding the arrest and charges.
