Montgomery County police have released body-worn camera footage showing an exchange of gunfire between officers and a suspect now facing attempted murder charges following an incident in Montgomery Village.

The incident occurred last week near Contour Road, where officers had been responding to ongoing complaints of criminal activity in the area.

According to police, officers encountered 27-year-old Andre Duvall, who fled on foot through an apartment complex when approached.

The video released by the department shows an officer pursuing Duvall while identifying himself as a police officer and ordering him to stop.

As the officer turned a corner in the complex, authorities say Duvall fired multiple shots in the direction of the pursuing officer.

The footage captures the moment gunfire is exchanged, with officers taking cover and returning fire while issuing commands.

Radio transmissions can be heard in the video, including officers reporting “shots fired” as the situation developed.

Assistant Police Chief Darren Francke said Duvall was struck during the exchange.

According to Francke, the suspect was hit in the upper torso and leg.

Following the shooting, the video shows first responders providing medical assistance to Duvall at the scene.

He was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities said he was released later the same day and taken into custody.

Police confirmed that no officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene. Authorities said Duvall is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior convictions.

Duvall, who is from Germantown, has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, as well as assault and firearms-related violations.

Police officials said the area where the incident occurred had been the subject of repeated complaints related to criminal activity.

Francke said officers had been directed to increase patrols in the area as part of an effort to address those concerns.

Francke stated that officers were working to “restore order” in response to ongoing issues reported by residents in the neighborhood.

The release of the body-worn camera footage provides a detailed account of the sequence of events, including the pursuit, the exchange of gunfire, and the immediate response by officers and emergency personnel.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as authorities continue to review the evidence and circumstances surrounding the encounter.
