A suspect accused of shooting a New Hampshire police officer and multiple family members was killed Saturday night following a gunfight with authorities, according to officials.
Matthew J. Masse, 38, allegedly opened fire on relatives and a responding officer shortly after 1:30 p.m. in Raymond, prompting a large-scale law enforcement response that included road closures and a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
Authorities said the incident began when Masse reportedly shot members of his family with a long gun before firing at responding officers.
A Nottingham Police Department officer was struck during the encounter and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot into a wooded area, triggering an extensive manhunt that lasted for several hours.
Law enforcement agencies deployed K-9 units and coordinated a multi-agency response as officers searched the area.
Officials described the effort as an all-hands-on-deck operation, with officers working across jurisdictions to locate the suspect.
Masse was described by authorities as a middle-aged white male, standing 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 202 pounds.

Officials also said he had active felony warrants related to an attempted arson incident at his family’s home that occurred on Thursday.
Residents in the area near Ham Road were advised to shelter in place as the search continued into the evening.
Authorities maintained the order for several hours while officers worked to locate Masse in the wooded terrain.

New Hampshire State Police located Masse at approximately 10:06 p.m., officials said. During the attempted arrest, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and officers.
"There was an exchange of gunfire between Mr. Masse with his rifle and the officers," the state Attorney General’s Office said.
"Following that exchange, Mr. Masse was found deceased by officers when they approached his location."
Authorities confirmed that Masse was found dead at the scene, and his long gun was recovered nearby.
No additional officers or civilians were injured during the final confrontation, officials said.
An autopsy has been scheduled for early this week to determine Masse’s official cause and manner of death, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public following the conclusion of the incident.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
