Author Lionel Shriver is raising concerns about U.S. immigration policy, arguing that actions taken under former President Joe Biden reflect intentional decision-making rather than simple policy failures.

Shriver said her views have shifted over time as she reassessed how immigration policies have been carried out.

“I resisted for a long time this notion that Democrats were deliberately inviting masses of foreigners into the country because they wanted to to grow little Democrats and create a one party state,” she said.

She added that her earlier view attributed the situation to mismanagement. “I imagined a lot of it was incompetence and fecklessness,” Shriver said.

However, she said her perspective has changed.

“Now there may be an element of that, but I think it was more intentional,” she said.

Shriver specifically pointed to border policy decisions during the Biden administration.

“The Biden administration opened that border on purpose,” she said.

She also raised concerns about how migrants were transported across the country.

“They put illegal migrants with no ID onto commercial airplanes with regular passengers who all have to have, you know, an impeccable national ID,” Shriver said.

Shriver said she believes those actions were not accidental.

“There is design behind it, and I don't have any other theory,” she said.

She then outlined what she sees as the motivation behind those policies.

“I don't have any other theory, aside from this pathological passion for minorities,” Shriver said, adding that she believes there is “a weird notion that people who are non white are superior.”

Shriver also addressed arguments that immigration is necessary for economic reasons, particularly to support an aging workforce.

“You know, on the one hand, the left talks about, oh, we need these people economically,” she said.

“We have this aging age structure, and, you know, Social Security's imperiled, and and Medicare costs too much, and we need young people to fill out the workforce.”

However, she said those arguments conflict with other policies supported by Democrats. “But then, you know, they support family reunification,” Shriver said.

She pointed to what she described as a contradiction in allowing additional family members to enter the country. “Which means these these people can bring in their parents, right?” she said.

Shriver concluded by questioning how those policies align with workforce goals. “I mean so much for improving the age structure,” she said.
