Sen. John Fetterman criticized members of his own party and the American media this week, arguing that attention has shifted away from what he described as the primary threat posed by Iran as a congressional deadline approaches on military action, as reported by Fox News.

Fetterman made the remarks during an appearance on Hannity, where he addressed the ongoing debate in Washington over U.S. operations targeting Iran and the authority of Donald Trump to continue those actions.

"Iran must be so excited by the American media and the Democratic Party," Fetterman said. "It’s like, as long as we can hang on... more and more people continue to vote against the Trump administration."

The comments come as congressional Democrats have increased pressure to limit or end U.S. military operations connected to Iran, citing the War Powers Resolution. The law requires congressional authorization for sustained military engagement, and lawmakers are approaching a 60-day deadline to act on the issue.

Fetterman, a Democrat, has taken positions that differ from many members of his party on both Iran and Israel policy. He said he continues to support the current military operation, referring to it as “Epic Fury,” and suggested that he is among the few Democrats backing the effort.

"I'm the only Democrat effectively left in Congress to support Epic Fury," he said. "It's almost as if we've forgotten, on the Democratic side, that the real enemy, the real threat, the real danger is Iran and its proxies too."

Fetterman said his focus remains on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

"Why can we be this close and allow them to acquire a nuclear bomb?" he said.

"That's my real concern, and I don't ever want to be on the wrong side of history to say, 'I'm going to walk away from it...' I've supported it [the operation] the entire time, and I don't know where the votes are going to be. If it takes two or three on the Republican side, I don't know, but I'm going to say where my vote is, because I'm firmly on the side of Israel, I'm firmly on this side of [opposing Iran]."

Fetterman also raised concerns about reports involving women in Iran, criticizing what he said was a lack of attention from political activists.

"People on the left aren't talking about that. Why aren't they protesting that Iran's about to hang women in Iran? They are the evil regime..." he said.

"We are at a very important inflection point in the Middle East," he continued.

"That's why I'm going to continue to support this, because Iran can't ever acquire a nuclear bomb. That's not a radical idea for the Democratic Party... Until you're... [willing] to even do anything about it, then those are empty words. We should be firmly on this side to hold Iran fully accountable."

The debate in Washington comes as the administration weighs its next steps ahead of the War Powers deadline, with lawmakers from both parties considering how to proceed. President Trump has also recently called on Iran to release the women ahead of additional talks in Pakistan.
