A dog reportedly discharged a shotgun inside a truck during a stop at a Nebraska gas station Saturday, sending a blast through the vehicle and injuring a woman who was stopped several yards away at a traffic light, according to local reports citing authorities, as reported by Fox News.

The incident happened shortly after noon at Short Stop, a gas station and convenience store located at 2002 Avenue I in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, KNOP reported.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, the vehicle had pulled into the gas station when the owner stepped inside the store.

A second passenger who had been riding in the vehicle also stepped outside but remained near the front passenger-side door, the outlet reported.

The dog was left inside the vehicle. Police said the animal moved around in the rear seat area and came into contact with a shotgun that had been stored inside the truck.

Authorities indicated that the shotgun appeared to have a live round in the chamber and discharged after being triggered.

The blast went through the vehicle’s front passenger-side door before traveling out of the parking lot. Police said it struck a woman who was stopped at a nearby traffic light several yards away.

According to KNOP, a shotgun pellet struck the upper portion of the woman’s right arm while her arm was resting outside the window of her vehicle.

Investigators also noted damage to the truck’s passenger-side door that was consistent with a shotgun blast, KNOP reported.
