A Washington state woman was arrested after authorities said she drove onto a sidewalk and pursued a child riding a dirt bike in a suburban neighborhood, an incident captured on cellphone video and later released by law enforcement, as reported by The New York Post.

Wendy Clemente, 56, was taken into custody following the April 28 incident in Cheney, Washington, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. She was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree attempted assault, driving under the influence, and criminal trespass.

Video recorded by a neighbor shows a silver Ford Focus turning toward a child riding a dirt bike along a residential street.

The footage shows the vehicle swerving in the direction of the child while the driver repeatedly honks the horn. At one point, the car appears to reverse and then accelerate toward the child on the sidewalk.

“This woman is crazy,” a bystander is heard saying in the video as the vehicle moves toward the child.

As the incident continued, the person recording the video can be heard reacting to the scene. “She’s trying to run this … Oh my God … You’re kidding, oh my God,” the individual said.

Authorities said the incident occurred in a neighborhood in Cheney, located in Spokane County. Deputies were initially dispatched in response to a report of a possible burglary approximately one mile away. A caller reported seeing someone attempting to open doors at a residence via a live security camera feed.

When deputies arrived at the reported location, they encountered Clemente and the silver Ford Focus. According to a police report, she attempted to kick a patrol deputy during the arrest.

Investigators said Clemente told deputies she had taken her dogs for a drive and was “looking for other dogs to socialize with” at the time.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said Clemente was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs during the incident. Authorities also stated that she denied knowledge of the confrontation involving the child on the dirt bike.

Clemente later admitted to consuming alcohol prior to her arrest, according to officials.

Following her booking into jail, Clemente appeared in court for arraignment on April 29. She was later released on her own recognizance as the case proceeds.

The incident remains under investigation by local authorities. Officials have not released additional details about the child involved.
