Jon Bon Jovi brought his Madison Square Garden concert to an unexpected halt Thursday after struggling to continue his set during the New York City stop.

The rock icon, 64, was performing on night eight in his nine-show residency as part of the Forever Tour, as reported by Page Six.

The show had reached his 1986 hit, “Livin’ on a Prayer,” when he told the audience he needed to stop.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Page Six, Bon Jovi was direct with fans about why they were not going to see the full performance.

“I’m sorry, I’m hurt, and you’re not getting the best of me,” he told the crowd, the eyewitness said.

He also urged concertgoers not to discard their proof of admission as he tried to address what would happen next. “Don’t throw away your ticket stubs, I’m gonna figure something out, OK?” he continued.

“Just hold onto it, we’ll figure out how to reschedule.” Before leaving the stage, Bon Jovi added, “But I’m gonna have to cool it for the night. I feel great.”

Representatives for the “It’s My Life” singer later confirmed to Page Six that the concert did not run to its planned finish.

Their statement said, “The Bon Jovi concert at Madison Square Garden ended after 90 mins tonight.”

The statement also offered the reason Bon Jovi gave fans from the stage. “Jon Bon Jovi spoke from stage and told fans he has been battling a sinus infection which led to the show’s early ending,” it continued.

His representatives pointed to the larger meaning of the residency as they described the singer’s return to concerts.

“As part of the Bon Jovi residency at Madison Square Garden, Jon has said numerous times that it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band.”

The statement ended with a brief promise of more details. “Updated information will be available shortly.” No additional information was included in the statement provided to Page Six.

Fans quickly responded online with support for Bon Jovi after the shortened concert.

“That must have broke his heart to have to end it early,” one person wrote, while another shared that the night was still meaningful despite the sudden finish.

“Heartbreaking end to the show (seeing what it meant to him) but having landed in from the UK for it, I was still blown away!!” the fan wrote.

The reactions focused on both the disappointment of the moment and concern for the singer.

The Forever Tour is notable because it is the band’s first tour since Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord surgery in 2022.

That history has remained part of the public discussion around his return to the stage.

In 2024, he told the Sunday Times he might never sing live again after vocal cord surgery if his voice could not meet his own standard. He told the outlet:

“If the singing is not great, if I can’t be the guy I once was … then I’m done.”

Last month, however, Bon Jovi told People he was “fully recovered.” He said, “It was longer than I’d ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith.”

Bon Jovi, who is a father of four, also said the health crisis changed the way he approaches each day.

“I used to always have my nose to the grindstone, always put my head down, thinking of tomorrow, never living in the today,” he explained.

“This forced me to not only live in the today but be appreciative for every today that’s still here.”
