Florence Pugh has once again declined to explain the enduring rumors about her relationship with Olivia Wilde during the making of Don’t Worry Darling.

Four years after off screen drama nearly overwhelmed discussion of the 2022 movie, Pugh remains unwilling to offer a detailed public account.

TMZ reported on September 25 that the subject surfaced during Pugh’s new Vanity Fair cover interview.

When asked about the alleged feud with Wilde, Pugh declined to discuss it, pointing instead to the many topics they had covered that mattered to her life and career.

That response fits the approach Pugh has taken for years. Although stories about problems behind the scenes became almost as famous as the film, she has consistently avoided laying out her version of what may have happened.

The interview did touch on Wilde’s latest directing project, The Invite. Pugh said she had not watched the film, but she had heard it was “fantastic” and offered praise for its cast.

There was nothing openly hostile in that response. Yet Pugh’s continued refusal to revisit Don’t Worry Darling ensures that the questions surrounding the production remain without a publicly agreed explanation from the people at the center of the story.

The dispute has always contained far more reports of tension than facts that both Pugh and Wilde have publicly accepted.

That gap helped fuel fascination around the movie and kept attention fixed on their interactions as its release approached.

Reports about possible trouble between the actress and director intensified around the 2022 release of Don’t Worry Darling.

The most dramatic allegation emerged from a Vulture report describing a confrontation between Pugh and Wilde.

According to that report, the confrontation concerned Wilde’s alleged “frequent, unexplained absences” from the set.

Vulture also connected those reported absences to Wilde spending time with Harry Styles, who starred in the movie and was dating Wilde at the time.

After that, public appearances involving the movie attracted intense scrutiny.

Each development surrounding Pugh, Wilde and Styles appeared to add another chapter to a celebrity story that had expanded well beyond an ordinary industry rumor.

Pugh did not attend the movie’s press conference at the Venice Film Festival. At the time, scheduling related to her work on Dune: Part Two was cited as the reason for her absence.

Even with that scheduling explanation, speculation about Pugh, Wilde and Styles continued to grow.

The attention transformed whatever may have happened during filming into a major subject surrounding the movie’s release and the people involved with it.

Wilde has directly rejected one of the most prominent claims. Parade reported in June that she denied ever having a screaming match with Pugh and said she had never engaged in a screaming match on any of her sets.

Wilde also disputed allegations that she was unavailable during filming. Her denials addressed claims that had become central to the continuing narrative about trouble during the production of Don’t Worry Darling.

Other members of the production also challenged the screaming match allegation.

After Vulture published its report in 2022, 40 people who worked on Don’t Worry Darling signed a joint statement saying that Wilde had never had a screaming match with anyone in the cast.
