Actress Jane Fonda’s Climate PAC is reportedly directing millions of dollars toward socialist candidates as the midterm elections approach, adding a hefty Hollywood funding stream to congressional, state, and local contests around the country.

The PAC has spent $5 million supporting candidates after raising $8 million, according to the New York Post. Its spending stretches from competitive congressional campaigns to races for local offices such as county commissioner and county council.

Financial records show that the organization spent $1.8 million on operations and handed out $3.4 million. It also transferred $228,000 to other committees and still has another $5 million in the bank.

Fonda’s financial support has included a series of $5,000 PAC contributions to candidates competing in closely watched House races. Those contests include campaigns in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and other states.

The House races carrying Fonda’s financial backing could help decide which party controls Congress. That makes the Climate PAC’s spending more than a celebrity political project, with its money flowing into contests carrying national consequences.

The PAC also contributed $5,000 to Dr. Annie Andrews, the Democratic Senate candidate seeking to defeat appointed Sen. Darline Graham (R-SC). The contest has become both closely watched and suddenly competitive.

Andrews appeared in an advertisement with her Republican father, who vouched that she is “not some crazy socialist.” The ad came as Fonda’s PAC was putting its money behind Andrews in the Senate campaign.

Other recipients of support from the Climate PAC include Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. The organization previously supported Francesca Hong, a DSA Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate, before Hong lost in the primary.

The PAC has not limited its involvement to congressional, Senate, or gubernatorial campaigns. It has also contributed to candidates seeking local positions, including county commissioner and county council offices.

That broad spending comes as polling shows substantial public concern about Democratic Socialist candidates seeking elected office. According to The Center Square, roughly 55% of Americans fear socialists taking control.

“The Center Square Voters’ Voice poll found that 55% of American voters are concerned about Democratic Socialist candidates running for and winning elected office in the U.S., while 37% aren’t concerned,” The Center Square noted.

The same report said numerous candidates campaigning as democratic socialists appear to be raising alarms among a majority of American voters. The findings show that public concern is not confined to a small slice of the electorate.

“Of the 55% who are concerned, 35% are very concerned, while 20% say they are ‘somewhat concerned,'” The Center Square added. Meanwhile, 37% of respondents said they were not concerned.

The polling provides a stark backdrop for Fonda’s campaign spending. While a majority of surveyed voters expressed concern about Democratic Socialist candidates winning office, the Climate PAC has continued putting substantial resources into races at several levels of government.

Its spending combines high operational costs with millions of dollars distributed directly or transferred to other political committees. The PAC’s remaining $5 million also leaves it with considerable money available as the midterms draw closer.

From competitive House races to a suddenly competitive Senate contest and smaller local elections, Fonda’s Climate PAC has established a wide political reach. The Hollywood money machine is not merely talking about politics, either, as the reported figures show millions already moving through the organization.
