Jodie Sweetin has revisited the frightening moment her late “Full House” television dad, Bob Saget, helped her escape the aftermath of a drive-by shooting. The incident happened after the two attended a Janet Jackson concert when Sweetin was younger, as reported by Page Six.
Sweetin shared the startling story Sunday during a ‘90s Con panel at the Connecticut Convention Center, according to People. She recalled that she and Saget were sitting inside their car after the concert when a person “shot the window out of the car.”
The sudden gunfire sent them scrambling away from the vehicle. Sweetin said she and Saget “ran off” before confronting the practical challenge of finding another way home in an era before ride-sharing services.

They ultimately needed two station wagon taxis to leave the scene. Sweetin explained that they “then had to wait for two station wagon taxis because this is pre-Uber.”

Saget was then left with the uncomfortable responsibility of taking his young television daughter home and telling her mother what had happened. Sweetin turned that part of the harrowing memory into a joke about how her mother viewed him.
“And then Bob had to drive me home and explain to my mom what happened. So between that and the Laugh Factory, Bob was not always my mom’s favorite,” Sweetin quipped during the panel.
Sweetin, now 44, offered a vivid account of the moment the car window shattered. She placed the incident sometime around the late 1980s or early 1990s and remembered bending down immediately before hearing the shots.
“It was a drive-by. It was back in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s. I leaned over to tie my shoes and it’s just like ‘pop pop pop’ and the whole thing shattered.”

The experience remains so surreal that Sweetin admitted she still finds herself questioning the memory. “Did that actually happen?” she recalled wondering, despite having witnessed it herself.
“I was there and I doubt that it happened, but it actually did, so.” Her account delivered one of the panel’s most dramatic glimpses into her relationship with Saget away from the familiar “Full House” set.
Sweetin reunited at ‘90s Con with several other members of the sitcom’s cast. Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Scott Weinger and Andrea Barber also participated in the gathering.
Saget played Danny Tanner on the ABC sitcom, while Sweetin portrayed his daughter Stephanie Tanner. Bure played D.J. Tanner, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen portrayed the youngest Tanner daughter, Michelle.
The comedian died in January 2022 at age 65. Authorities ultimately determined that Saget died from blunt head trauma that caused a brain bleed after he accidentally struck the back of his head and went to sleep.
Sweetin has previously spoken about how his absence changed the bond among the “Full House” cast. In August, she said the group had become much quieter without the man who regularly initiated birthday messages and plans.

“He was always one of the first to say happy birthday or the first to start planning something,” Sweetin told SheKnows. His absence is especially noticeable whenever the former cast members gather again.
“Every time we get together, there’s always a moment when we’re like, ‘Bob should be here,’” Sweetin said. She added, “It does break your heart when you get everybody together and there’s one person missing.”
The cast has continued reuniting in the years since “Full House” ended in 1995. In August, Sweetin, Stamos, Loughlin, Coulier and Barber, who played Kimmy Gibbler, appeared together at The Nostalgia Con in Orlando, Florida.
That Orlando appearance occurred six months after Coulier announced that he was in remission from tongue cancer. The latest gathering brought the cast together again while also giving Sweetin an opportunity to share an extraordinary memory of Saget’s presence in her life.
