WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Bongino says liberal media are pushing a midterm “doom” narrative.
  • He argues economic, border, and crime indicators are stronger than the media portrays.
  • Enten says Republicans have repeatedly outperformed September polling.
  • Bongino urges GOP voters to ignore pessimism and turn out.

Dan Bongino is accusing liberal media outlets and what he described as “doomer” voices on the right of creating a distorted political narrative designed to discourage Republican voters ahead of the midterm elections.

Bongino argued that the gap between media coverage and what he sees in economic, immigration, and crime data has become unusually large.

"I'm just going to come right out with it, folks. You've been told things by the media, and by the way, the doom and gloom bought-off sellouts in the folex MAGA crowd. Don't show up and vote. Hand the country back to the socialists and the tyrants," Bongino said.

He said critics continue to portray the Trump administration as ineffective despite what he described as record deportations, low unemployment, falling crime, and a secured border.

"Donald Trump didn't do what he said he was going to do, and unbelievably, despite record deportations, record low jobless rate, record low crime rate, the border being shut down, folks. There are people who believe it," Bongino said.

Bongino introduced a video montage that he said contrasted favorable media coverage of economic conditions under Democratic administrations with more negative coverage of stronger numbers under Trump.

"At the beginning, you're going to see a bunch of media reports from the left-wing media about the Biden and Obama economy that was far, far worse on every metric than we are right now with the Donald Trump economy that's motoring along," Bongino said.

He argued that similar or better indicators are now being presented with more skepticism.

"Then Donald Trump gets into office, and despite numbers far better, everything is couched in. Well, it's okay, but could have been better, folks. Please don't fall for this op before the election. It is so obvious," Bongino said.

After the montage, Bongino said voters who accept that narrative are effectively being encouraged to ignore what he described as positive economic and border developments.

"Folks, I'm sorry, but that thing the guys put together should seal the election for you. If you really believe what the liberal media op is telling you, the economy's horrible. There's no deportations. The border's wide open. Crime is rampant like we've never seen before. The Trump administration sitting there doing nothing, playing fiddlesticks all day," Bongino said.

He pointed to manufacturing investment, projected GDP growth, unemployment and poverty figures as examples of what he believes the media is minimizing.

"All the money pouring back into the United States for manufacturing. The South Korea billions of dollars of investment yesterday in Alaska, all of the plants going up, the 5% projected GDP growth, jobless rates being the lowest, poverty rate being the lowest," Bongino said.

He also contrasted coverage of inflation under Biden with the current environment.

"Biden peaked out at 9% inflation. Well, it's not that bad. Biden's average inflation rate was five. We're at three now. That's not great, but it's nowhere near Joe Biden was. At least Donald Trump's trying to fix the problem and having better results," Bongino said.

Bongino made a similar argument about foreign policy, criticizing media treatment of the Afghanistan withdrawal while saying current developments involving Iran receive a more negative framing.

"The Afghanistan withdrawal-that's what it started with, oh man, this is so great! Look at one of the most humiliating military moves by a commander in chief in generations in the United States, and I didn't even disagree with the policy of shrinking the footprint in Afghanistan, but not like that," Bongino said.

He then turned to border coverage, arguing that media outlets previously minimized the crisis while now criticizing Trump despite what he described as a shutdown of illegal crossings.

"There was cameras and drones at the border watching hundreds of 1000s of people a day stream in: potential terrorists, criminals, child traffickers, drug traffickers, counterfeit money traffickers. We had no idea who these people were. There's no crisis at the border. Donald Trump shuts down the border. Everything's terrible. Everything's terrible," Bongino said.

Bongino said he has never seen such a large discrepancy between the political narrative and what he believes is actually happening.

"I have never, even despite the worst cancel culture years of Obama and Biden, never seen a bigger discrepancy between the media narrative and the doom narrative of where the country is and what's actually happening on the ground?" Bongino said.

He also questioned polling suggesting Republican weakness, arguing that GOP candidates have repeatedly performed better than September polling indicated.

To support that point, Bongino played a clip of CNN's Harry Enten.

"The GOP outperformed September polls in the major 2018 statewide races by six points in Iowa, six points in Ohio, and eight points in Michigan," Enten said.

Enten noted that the pattern extended across several election cycles.

"The bottom line is this: over the last few cycles, whether it be 2018, 2016, 2020, 2024, Republicans have outperformed their September polls by at least five points in all these three states where Democrats right now are ahead, but not by a wide enough margin, whereby if Republicans outperform their September polls again, it could become very, very interesting," Enten said.

Bongino argued that voters should not treat current polling as proof that the election is already decided.

"There is no reason for you to believe this is a fait accompli and this race is over. None. They've told you that before," Bongino said.

He closed by urging supporters to actively contact other voters through email, social media and phone calls.

"Yes, you have to email 10 people, tell them how to vote, folks. It's mandatory. Please, it's homework for the show. Make 10 social media posts. Here's how you vote. If you're not registered, here are your voting locations. If you are, please call 10 people too. You voting? Can I get you to the polls?" Bongino said.
