Travis Kelce is not holding a grudge against Prince William after the royal admitted that he tried to move the NFL star out of a viral selfie with Taylor Swift. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs star responded to the confession with a joke of his own, as reported by Page Six.

Kelce addressed William’s admission during Wednesday’s episode of the “New Heights” podcast with his brother and podcast co-host, Jason Kelce. His reaction suggested he understood why William might have wanted the memorable picture without Swift’s then boyfriend crowding the frame.

“I get it, man,” Travis, 37, told Jason. He then added, “I was just a boyfriend at that point. I wasn’t her husband yet.”

Travis jokingly imagined the thoughts that might have been running through William’s mind when the picture was taken backstage during the Eras Tour in June 2024. The athlete framed the royal’s efforts as a practical attempt to secure a lasting family photograph with the pop superstar.

According to Travis, William, 44, likely thought, “We don’t really know if this is going to last, so can you just kind of move out of the way really quick? So we can keep this photo forever?”

Jason joined the fun by saying he hopes his brother’s relationship with Swift “doesn’t go south.” He also shared an edited version of the photograph that removed Travis from the scene entirely.

The altered picture showed Swift posing with William and his two eldest children, Prince George, 13, and Princess Charlotte, 11. The original backstage selfie became one of the most widely noticed images from Swift’s Eras Tour stop in the UK.

Travis’ playful response arrived after William discussed the photograph during Friday’s episode of “The Graham Norton Show.” The Prince of Wales recalled attempting “to move” Travis, so he could get a picture featuring only Swift, himself and his children.

“Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in,” William said while recounting the moment. His version turned the now famous photograph into a comical struggle over who would remain in the frame.

“I was trying to move him out so it was just me and Taylor and the children!” William added. Despite his effort, Travis stayed in the photograph that Swift eventually shared with her followers on Instagram.

Swift, 35, posted the selfie to celebrate the beginning of her shows in the UK. The image quickly went viral and also became a notable marker in her relationship with the Chiefs tight end.

The picture was the first social media post from either Swift or Travis to feature the other since their romance began in mid 2024. That significance was not apparent to William when everyone gathered for the photograph backstage.

William acknowledged on “The Graham Norton Show” that he initially “wasn’t aware” of what the post represented for the couple. He added, “I hadn’t appreciated the significance.”

The royal nevertheless appeared to enjoy the concert with George and Charlotte. He was seen dancing to Swift’s 2014 hit “Shake It Off” during the family’s night at the Eras Tour.

William’s wife, Princess Kate Middleton, did not attend the show. Their youngest child, Prince Louis, 8, was also absent from the family outing.

Swift and Travis later reached another milestone when they became engaged in August 2025. The proposal took place in a garden at the tight end’s home in Missouri.

The couple subsequently married in a celebrity-filled ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3. With Travis now Swift’s husband, his joke about being only her boyfriend when William tried to edge him out gave the viral selfie an even more amusing afterlife.
