A woke French student and leftist political influencer who mocked business owners after riots has become one of the most conspicuous figures in France’s unrest. Lola-Fleur Whittaker studies at the prestigious Sciences Po Paris, and her televised defense of rioters quickly put her in the spotlight.
Whittaker appeared Monday on La Grande Confrontation to argue over who was responsible for the weekend’s violence. As owners dealt with smashed and looted businesses, she offered a remarkably casual response to what they had lost.
“Your little shops, that’s real cute,” she said during the argument. The remark brought an immediate response from Jhemima Sheilha, who owns a chain of bakeries and had seen her businesses looted.
A French left-wing activist mocked those whose livelihoods had been destroyed by violent rioters and looters over the past few days.
“Your little shops, that’s real cute,” said Lola-Fleur Whittaker, who defended the rioters during a French television debate. Whittaker tried to draw sympathy, stating that her mother is an English teacher who eats cookies for lunch because she can't “pay for the cafeteria.” However, online users quickly found Whittaker’s social media profiles, where she posts pictures of herself vacationing in places like Oman, the island of Ré, Sicily, the Greek islands, Malaysia, and Egypt. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Manchester, and she offers French lessons for €53 per 50-minute lesson on the platform Preply, where she has already taught 1,709 classes. — Visegrád 24 (@visegrad24) October 20, 2026
“It’s my life, Lola,” Sheilha said. “We’ve had to see our businesses smashed. What justifies terrorizing people’s lives?”

The exchange placed Whittaker’s defense of the rioters against the experiences of an owner whose businesses had been attacked. It also focused attention on the contrast between her dismissive rhetoric and the privileged lifestyle displayed across her social media profile.
These things are same the world over! Whittaker regularly shared photographs from vacations in exotic destinations around the world. The pictures included trips to Sicily, Greece, Malaysia, Egypt, and Oman, hardly the image of a struggling revolutionary standing shoulder to shoulder with ordinary shopkeepers.
Those travel posts became particularly awkward after she brushed aside the “little shops” belonging to owners affected by the unrest. The social media profile revealed an international lifestyle that appeared far more bourgeois than proletarian.

Whittaker’s academic and political résumé was already prominent. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Manchester before studying at Sciences Po Paris.

She also previously stood as a candidate in Paris for France Unbowed, a political party described as far left. In addition to her political involvement and studies, Whittaker is a prominent leftist influencer.
During Monday’s heated debate, Whittaker also appeared to suggest an unusual link between the recent rioting and attacks on Algerian immigrants by French police in October 1961, according to La Dépêche. That comparison came during the same appearance in which she dismissed the losses suffered by business owners.
Whittaker was not immediately available for comment following the controversy. Her remarks, Sheilha’s direct challenge and the photographs of overseas vacations were left to speak for themselves.
The argument unfolded as France faced serious violence and widespread disorder. Around 2,500 arrests were made over the weekend while violent mobs looted luxury stores and torched historical monuments.

The destruction prompted authorities to impose curfews in multiple French cities on Monday. French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that the restrictions would remain in place “for as long as necessary.”
On Tuesday, Lecornu praised the curfews for helping authorities keep the peace overnight. The measures followed the country’s worst riots in years.
France is also set to deploy the military on the streets to assist police ahead of additional planned protests this weekend. The deployment reflects the scale of the challenge facing authorities after thousands of arrests, attacks on stores and damage to historical monuments.
The planned protests coincide with an NFL game in Paris between the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Police and military personnel are therefore preparing for another weekend of demonstrations while the city is also scheduled to host the American football matchup.
Against that backdrop, Whittaker’s sneering reference to “little shops” delivered a political spectacle of its own. A privileged student with photographs from Sicily, Greece, Malaysia, Egypt, and Oman had mocked owners watching their businesses get smashed and looted.
