Kid Rock turned an ordinary golf story into a presidential comedy routine during Friday’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.” The musician recalled how golfing with President Donald Trump unexpectedly left him speaking by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron, as reported by Fox News.

The story drew laughter from Maher’s audience as Kid Rock described Trump fielding calls throughout their golf outing. What began as a glimpse of the president working on the course quickly became an unusual international introduction.

“That was funny. Yeah, we’re out golfing. I hate speaking out of school, but this is just a fun one,” Kid Rock said. He explained that Trump continued handling business while playing golf.

“The guy’s taking calls all day,” Kid Rock said.

“He’s working while you’re golfing. This guy does not stop working. We can all agree on that. He sleeps maybe four or five hours a night. So we’re out there, Macron calls, we’re out there, [Trump’s] talking to him.”

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, said the moment took another turn while everyone was standing near Trump’s golf cart. Trump apparently decided Macron and the musician needed to exchange greetings.

“We’re all standing there,” Kid Rock continued. [Trump’s] like, ‘Hey, I’m here with the great Kid Rock,’ like Macron knows who I am, and he’s like, ‘Bob, say hello.’”

Trump then passed the phone to Kid Rock, creating an encounter the musician had not expected when the golf outing began. Kid Rock greeted Macron formally before reaching for a hometown connection.

“So he gives me the phone, and I’m like, ‘Hello, Mr. President,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m from the Paris of the Midwest: Detroit.’ And Trump leaves; he gets in the golf cart.”

That detail sent Maher into laughter as he emphasized the absurdity of Trump driving away while Macron remained connected to Kid Rock. “He leaves Macron on the phone with Kid Rock,” Maher told the audience.

Kid Rock finished the anecdote by reenacting his effort to keep the unexpected conversation moving. He added, “I was like, ‘So what else you been up to?'”

The account also amused Sen. Ted Cruz and journalist Jim VandeHei, who joined Maher and Kid Rock during the episode. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment about the musician’s account.

The episode also featured Maher responding to a lengthy Truth Social post in which Trump criticized him following their second White House dinner. Kid Rock and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith also attended that dinner.

“Eating with Trump is a lot like dating Taylor Swift,” Maher said. “It’s a lot of fun at the time but later on, they’re tearing you a new a------.”

Not everyone found Maher’s reaction convincing. Democratic political strategist Kaivan Shroff told Fox News Digital that Maher would have treated a similar golf course exchange far more harshly if former President Barack Obama had handed Macron to a celebrity and driven away.

“If Barack Obama had handed Emmanuel Macron off to some celebrity on a golf course and driven away, Maher would have gone on a 10-minute rant about how unserious, embarrassing and beneath the presidency it was,” Shroff said.

“Trump does it, and suddenly Maher is pounding the table laughing like it is the funniest thing he has ever heard.”

Shroff argued that Maher’s response was a performance intended to present Trump as charming, rather than a spontaneous reaction. He also criticized the comedian’s political posture and association with Trump and Kid Rock.

“His whole brand is the liberal who bashes other liberals,” Shroff said. “But at some point, if all you do is bash Democrats, pal around with Kid Rock, and suck up to Trump — you’re just a Republican.” Fox News Digital reached out to Maher for comment.
