A late-night street takeover in the Malba section of Queens erupted into violence early Sunday morning, leaving two residents injured and a security vehicle burned, according to video footage, witnesses, and statements from local officials.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. near South Drive and 141st Street, where a group driving in from outside the neighborhood began performing car stunts in the street and driving over private property.
New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino released video of the aftermath on X and described what she said took place.

“Last night in Malba, a large group of individuals from outside my district conducted an illegal ‘takeover’ of a quiet residential street at approximately 12:30am,” she wrote.
Paladino said a private security guard attempted to calm the situation but was assaulted by the group, and his vehicle was set ablaze.
“He suffered significant injuries. A local resident was also assaulted,” she wrote.
She criticized the emergency response, stating that residents who called 911 were told the situation should be handled by a “quality of life team” or through 311.

“Unacceptable,” Paladino said, adding that “these violent street takeovers should be met with maximum force by the police department.”
She noted that the neighborhood had not previously experienced incidents of this kind.
“We have NEVER had these problems before. Now it’s an epidemic. What changed? We stopped arresting criminals,” Paladino wrote.
She said she met with the NYPD Chief of Department and local precinct officials Monday morning and was told Malba would receive four dedicated patrol cars moving forward, along with additional security measures.

Paladino added that similar incidents have been occurring “citywide” and claimed there are “no longer any real consequences to this kind of criminality.”
She also said armed residents were present during the chaos.

One resident holding a baseball bat on his property was attacked by several people in the group.
Video shows a dozen individuals surrounding and beating the resident after one person struck him from behind.
The man, identified as Blake Ferrer, spoke to the New York Post.
“When I came out, I said, ‘Bro, you gotta get the f**k off my property,’ and that’s when it all started,” Ferrer said.
He sustained a broken nose and broken ribs, and his wife was also assaulted.
Another resident, Larry Rusch, 59, who owns a security firm, said he attempted to stop the activity by parking his car in the intersection to block the street.
“As soon as I did that, everyone started leaving,” he said.
He told the New York Post that two individuals then approached his car and set it on fire using a firework or similar device. “Then melee started again,” he said.
Paladino said the events reflect a broader decline in public safety.
“This is completely unacceptable, but this is the anarcho-tyranny of New York under progressive rule, where criminals operate with total impunity and law abiding citizens are scared to defend themselves,” she wrote.
“There is only so much more of this abuse people will take. I strongly suggest all law abiding citizens arm themselves and prepare to act in defense of their homes and family, because I highly doubt relief is coming with our new mayor.”
