MS NOW host Joe Scarborough said former President Joe Biden’s senior aides privately asked him to soften on-air criticism during Biden’s time in the White House, warning that negative commentary would complicate their workday, according to remarks Scarborough made during a Wednesday appearance on late-night television, as reported by Fox News.
Scarborough, the longtime co-host of “Morning Joe,” told Jimmy Kimmel that Biden’s chiefs of staff would reach out when the former president was watching the show.
“And I would hear from the chiefs of staff that worked for him,” Scarborough said. “‘Be nice to the president. Because when you’re critical, well, it kind of screws up our day.’”

Scarborough said the requests did not change how he did his job, adding that his approach remained consistent regardless of which administration he was covering.
“The thing is, whether I was talking about Joe Biden or talking about what Donald Trump’s doing, my goal is your goal, which I think is everybody’s goal. We want a better country,” he said.
The comments shed light on the behind-the-scenes relationship between the Biden White House and friendly media figures during Biden’s term, as well as how closely the former president and his staff tracked cable news coverage.
Scarborough said aides would alert him when Biden was tuned in to “Morning Joe,” which airs weekday mornings on MS NOW.

Scarborough also told Kimmel that President Donald Trump, who is currently in office, likely watches the program as well.
He recounted a recent interaction following Trump’s call with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz regarding unrest in Minneapolis.
“I said, ‘Listen.’ And I don’t usually do this. I just called him up. I said, ‘If you don’t mind, off the record, tell me about the call,’” Scarborough said.
“He told me about the call. And I said, Mr. President, I think it’s a good thing for Americans to see you and Tim Walz and the mayor of Minneapolis talking to each other. We need more of that.”

Scarborough’s remarks come after earlier statements he made in defense of Biden’s mental acuity while the former president was still in office.
During a March 2024 episode of “Morning Joe,” Scarborough dismissed concerns about Biden’s fitness to serve and offered an emphatic endorsement.
“I’ve said it for years now, he’s cogent. But I undersold it when I said he was cogent. He’s far beyond cogent. In fact, I think he’s better than he’s ever been, intellectually, analytically, because he’s been around for 50 years,” Scarborough said at the time.
“Start your tape right now, because I’m about to tell you the truth. And F you if you can’t handle the truth. This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever.”
Those comments resurfaced after Biden exited the 2024 presidential race and former Vice President Kamala Harris went on to lose the election to Trump.
In the months that followed, multiple books detailing insider accounts from the Biden White House and re-election campaign were published, including claims about what staffers allegedly knew regarding Biden’s health while he was in office.
In May 2025, Scarborough publicly acknowledged he had misjudged Biden’s condition.
He said he was “obviously wrong” in declaring Biden the best he had ever been, explaining that his assessment was based solely on personal interactions he had with the former president.
Biden’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
