Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) issued a warning during a Friday appearance on the Black Girls Politickin podcast, saying, “If I go to sleep, democracy may very well die.”
The comment came during a 24-minute interview in which Crockett discussed how she is balancing her duties in Congress with campaigning for this year’s U.S. Senate race in Texas.
The clip from the podcast has since gone viral on social media.

During the interview, Crockett described the demands of serving in Congress while seeking statewide office.
“I still want to show up when I can,” she said. “But I still have a full time job I was elected to do, and I am still showing up every single day at work while also trying to make sure that Texans know that I am serious about earning their support.”
Crockett went on to describe her current schedule.
“So, I have seen no sleep right now,” she said.

“But you know what? Democracy can’t wait. And if I go to sleep, Democracy may very well die.”
The podcast’s producer described the episode in a written summary accompanying the segment.
