Two elementary and middle school students were arrested one day apart in Volusia County, Florida, after authorities say each made threats against classmates and teachers, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, as reported by The New York Post.
The students — identified as Anthony Steward, 11, and Micah Swinnie, 10 — were taken into custody after separate incidents this week in which investigators say they threatened violence at their schools.
Both were escorted from patrol vehicles in handcuffs by deputies and brought into the sheriff’s office, scenes that were captured on video and shared publicly by the agency.
Anthony Steward, a student at DeLand Middle School, was arrested after authorities said he gained access to a classmate’s Gradebook Communications account and sent threatening messages to seven teachers.

According to the sheriff’s office, the message read, “imma shoot you.”
Video posted by the department shows Steward being led into the sheriff’s office by deputies. As an officer secured handcuffs around his wrists, Steward complained that they felt “real tight.”
A deputy told the boy he could have avoided being handcuffed if he had not made the alleged threats.

Officials also said the arrest was not Steward’s first interaction with law enforcement over similar behavior. According to the sheriff’s office, he was previously arrested in October after making the same type of threat through a classmate’s Gradebook Communications account.
That earlier incident involved threats directed at members of the community at Southwestern Middle School.
A separate arrest occurred the following day involving Micah Swinnie, a 10-year-old student at Pride Elementary School.
Deputies said Swinnie was taken into custody after he allegedly left a note at a classroom desk that listed people he intended to kill. Investigators said the note read “list of people who i’m gunna kill.”
Authorities also reported that a message was written on a classroom whiteboard stating that a gun would be brought to school.
Swinnie was escorted from a patrol vehicle with his hands cuffed behind his back. As he stepped out of the vehicle, he told deputies, “It feels like a confinement in there.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the boy told deputies that he did not intend to carry out the threat. A parent also told authorities that Swinnie does not have access to a firearm.
Despite those statements, Swinnie was held in custody on a felony charge of making a written threat to kill. Officials said it remains unclear whether formal charges will ultimately be filed.
Both boys were wearing school spirit clothing when they were taken into custody by deputies.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood addressed the arrests publicly after two juvenile threat cases occurred in the same county within a single day.
In a statement posted by the sheriff’s office, Chitwood criticized individuals who minimize threats made by students.
“You can pat them on the head and tell them everything’s going to be alright. My job is to look out for everyone else. These idiotic threats disrupt our schools, eat up time and resources, and increase the chances a real threat slips through the cracks,” Chitwood said.
He also directed a message to parents regarding discipline and accountability.
“If you can threaten to shoot 7 teachers, you can take a perp walk. Parents, discipline your kids, and I won’t have to,” Chitwood wrote.
Law enforcement officials in Volusia County say threats involving schools are taken seriously and are investigated regardless of the age of the person accused of making them.
