Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville predicted this week that President Donald Trump will leave office within the next year, citing expected political setbacks following the midterm elections and what he described as mounting challenges facing the administration, as reported by Fox News.
Carville made the remarks in a video published Monday titled, "Trump Will Be Gone, Sooner Than You Think!" In the video, he argued that Trump would step down rather than continue governing under what he expects to be unfavorable political conditions.
"Everything that he tries blows up in his face. And he I'm telling you, I think he's just going to quit next year by this time. I think he's just going to f**king walk away because the Democrats control the House and the Senate."
He continued by outlining what he described as additional factors, stating, "No one's going to pay attention to him. The fiscal condition of the country is in the - beyond in the ditch. The Iran thing has turned into just a catastrophe of the first order."

Carville, a longtime Democratic political operative, has previously drawn attention for making high-profile predictions about President Trump and U.S. politics.
His latest comments come as attention begins to shift toward the upcoming midterm elections and the potential balance of power in Congress.
The White House responded sharply to Carville’s remarks, dismissing his prediction and defending the administration’s record.

"James Carville is a stone-cold loser who clearly suffers from a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome," the White House said.
"The President was elected with a resounding mandate to reverse disastrous Biden-era policies and unleash a new era of prosperity for our country – and it’s clear that he has delivered for Americans with a secure border, cooling inflation, working-class tax cuts, new trade deals, new drug pricing deals, trillions in investments, and peace through strength policies that eliminate national security threats to our Nation. Only deranged Democrats like James Carville could oppose all these wins for the American people."
Carville has made similar projections in the past. In October 2024, he suggested that a second Trump presidency would lead to actions against critics, including members of the media.
"When the paddy wagon comes, you and I are going to be in the back of it, bouncing around, and it’s not going to be very much fun, and they will tell you, the judge said, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. Carville, Trump said he was going to get rid of the Constitution, I have no choice but to enforce the democratic norms of this country,'" he said at the time.
Following the 2024 election, Carville also expressed confidence in future Democratic electoral prospects.
In November, he said he would bet that a Democrat would win the 2028 presidential election and predicted that such a victory would be accompanied by expanded Democratic control of Congress and potential changes to the Supreme Court.
Carville’s latest prediction about President Trump’s future in office adds to a series of statements he has made regarding the direction of U.S. politics and the potential outcomes of upcoming elections.
The White House response indicates that administration officials view such claims as unfounded and politically motivated, as the current administration continues to focus on its policy agenda and upcoming legislative priorities.
