Television host Greg Gutfeld criticized a group of left-wing activists who traveled to Cuba and stayed in luxury accommodations during a widespread blackout, contrasting their experience with the conditions faced by ordinary Cubans.
Speaking alongside video clips of activists and commentators, Gutfeld described the trip as disconnected from the realities on the island, where residents have faced longstanding shortages and infrastructure issues.
“So far left activists went to Cuba and stayed in five star hotels while the rest of the country had a total blackout. Because nothing says fight the power when no one else has any, and nothing says solidarity, solidarity with the oppressed like maid service and a mint on your pillow,” Gutfeld said.

He added, “It’s their version of MTV spring break. But instead of Carmen Electra, you get Greta Thunberg. The Cuban people are eating rationed rice in the dark, and these clowns are chowing down on $20 Snickers bars.”
Gutfeld continued, “Call it Safari communism Club Med, but red nibbling on ceviche while real Cubans swim past sharks to get to Miami.”
Video shown during the segment included footage of a performance by Irish rap group Kneecap, where fans could be heard chanting, “Free, Free Palestine.”
Gutfeld reacted to the chant, saying, “Well, if those are Irish rappers, they should change their name from kneecap to sucky charms. They chant Free Palestine in a different country where people are rationing beans.”

He added, “That’s like your buddy getting stabbed in the eye, but you put Preparation H on your ass.”
Gutfeld argued the activists’ focus was misplaced, saying, “Of course, it’s not about Cubans or anyone these activists claim to care about. It’s an invite only get away to a decaying communism theme park on some NGO’s dime.”
He also said the accommodations were not accessible to most Cubans, adding that the trip allowed participants to “humble brag on Tiktok while actual radicals rot in some hell hole prison for failing to salute.”
Gutfeld continued, “It’s all the same. Cuba, Gaza, ICE, BLM, what unites this isn’t just the power to the oppressed. It’s ego, which gains size through a hate for America.”
The segment included comments from Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin, who defended the activists’ presence in Cuba.
“We’re so excited to be with the Cuban people and show our support, show our solidarity, and to say that this cruel, inhumane, barbaric policy of the Trump administration has to go,” Benjamin said.
Gutfeld responded by attributing Cuba’s conditions to its political system, saying, “Because when a country collapses under decades of central planning, the real villain is the country hundreds of 1000s of Cubans have defected to by duct taping hollowed out coconut shells to their asses to float to Florida.”
He also referenced the hotel where activists stayed, saying, “So while the entire island is in darkness, this commie clown car stays at the Grand Hotel Bristol, five stars generators, luxury service.”
Gutfeld questioned why activists did not extend accommodations to Cuban residents, adding, “Why didn’t these activists invite Cubans to stay in their hotel for the night?”
The segment also featured political commentator Hasan Piker, who argued that tourism plays a role in supporting Cuba’s economy.
“Tourism is the lifeline for the Cuban economy as it stands. Currently, the government has very limited resources, and the American government makes it illegal for Americans to stay wherever they want. When they’re in Cuba, they have to stay in what they’ve declared as five star hotels in comparison to the situation on the island. It’s, it’s like, it’s a prosperity, pretty much. And experiencing that dichotomy is like, definitely f**ked me up. Definitely,” Piker said.
Gutfeld dismissed Piker’s remarks, saying, “Now, nothing he said is true, but we got to replay that last part.”
The clip was replayed, with Piker again stating, “Experiencing that dichotomy is like, definitely f**ked me up. Definitely.”
Gutfeld concluded by criticizing the activists’ approach, saying, “You couldn’t have done that better if you scripted it.”
He also commented on the broader situation in Cuba, stating, “Fact is, Cuba’s been struggling with power and basic services for decades. You know the stuff that happens when the government control. Everything and produces nothing.”
Gutfeld said the activists’ actions did not resonate with Cubans, adding that “they’re so stupid, they convince themselves they’re helping, but they aren’t convincing anyone else, especially the Cubans.”
