Authorities in upstate New York have arrested three middle school students accused of planning a school shooting modeled after past mass attacks, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by Fox News.

The suspects, identified as a 13-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl, and a 14-year-old girl, were taken into custody following an investigation that began after officials were alerted to a potential threat at Clinton Middle School.

Deputies said the alleged plot was discovered on April 11, with the students accused of planning to carry out an attack in the school cafeteria on Friday, April 17.

According to a police affidavit cited by Syracuse.com, one of the students wrote extensively about the alleged plan, including statements describing the intended impact.

"Everyone and their pathetic little lifes [sic] will be gone," one of the students allegedly wrote.

"I want to be remembered in the worst, most disturbing possible way."

Authorities said the plan appeared to be inspired by past school shootings, including the 1999 attack at Columbine High School in Colorado and the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

The two female students were each charged with aggravated threat of mass harm, a misdemeanor, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol. Both were referred to the county probation department.

Investigators also executed a search at a separate residence connected to the case. Deputies secured multiple firearms from the home, where the 13-year-old boy was located.

He was charged with second-degree conspiracy, a felony, and released to a guardian with an appearance ticket to return to the probation department.

According to Syracuse.com, citing the affidavit, authorities recovered 11 rifles and ammunition from a safe at the boy’s mother’s home in Kirkland, New York.

Sheriff Maciol said a fourth teenager was interviewed during the investigation, but was not considered a suspect.

The affidavit also detailed information about one of the girls, who had reportedly become focused on previous mass shootings.

Her mother and another student told investigators she had recently developed an interest in the Columbine attack, which resulted in 13 students and one teacher being killed on April 20, 1999.

Authorities also said the same student had written notes referencing Adam Lanza, the gunman responsible for the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 20 children and six staff members in 2012.

According to investigators, another student provided law enforcement with information about a Snapchat group chat allegedly created by the suspects.

The group was titled “The Cal Gabriel Fan Club,” referencing the main character from the 2002 film “Zero Day,” which centers on a planned school shooting.

Documents reviewed by Syracuse.com also indicated the student conducted online searches related to firearms and past school shooters.

Officials have not indicated how far along the alleged plan progressed or whether any additional individuals may have been involved.
