CNN appeared to include a statement from a parody X account during a segment discussing the health of Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, as reported by The Daily Caller.

During Wednesday's edition of "CNN This Morning," the network displayed a post from an X account belonging to "Kyle Kimble" alongside statements attributed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, and conservative commentator Scott Jennings.

The post read: "I spoke to my old friend Mitch McConnell this morning, the senior Senator from Kentucky. He’s still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 45 minutes."

Host Audie Cornish also appeared to reference the quote on air, saying:

Trump's Sovereign Wealth Fund: What Could It Mean For Your Money?

"So, you have a lot of Senate Republicans coming out, we’re just going to show some on screen … all saying I talked to him, I talked to him, I talked to him for 20 minutes, I talked to him for 45 minutes."

After the segment aired, the parody account posted on X, criticizing CNN and sharing a screenshot of the broadcast.

The account identifies itself as a parody.

Its X biography describes Kimble as a "Republican Representing CA’s 54th Dist. & co-sponsor of Poe’s Law. Detective Jesus #1: Thou Shalt Not Kill is out on Amazon."

California has 52 congressional districts, making the "54th District" an obvious fictional reference.

The account's campaign website also contains satirical material, including the statement: "My campaign has been working hard to contact you about your car’s extended warranty."

According to the report, CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The segment came as McConnell continues recovering after being hospitalized on June 14. Paramedics reportedly found the former Senate majority leader unconscious at his Washington residence.

On Tuesday, McConnell's office distributed an email containing statements from several senators and others who said they had recently spoken with him.

According to the report, Senate Majority Leader John Thune had a "lengthy and substantive conversation" with McConnell about national security over the phone.

Thune succeeded McConnell as Senate Republican leader in 2025. His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
