Disturbing footage appears to show two teenage jet ski riders causing a small tinny carrying two children to capsize on the Nerang River.

The weekend incident near Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast quickly angered locals who condemned the dangerous behavior, as reported by The New York Post.

The clip appears to show two jet skis operating dangerously close to the tinny and spraying it with water. The small vessel then capsized with boys aged 10 and 14 aboard.

Queensland Police confirmed that both children escaped the incident without injury. Officers attended the scene and helped the boys recover the vessel after receiving reports about the capsizing.

Police identified the two jet ski operators as boys aged 15 and 16. Each teenager is now facing charges of dangerous operation of a vessel and assault.

“Police have identified and intercepted the operators of two jet skis following a marine incident at Surfers Paradise on 4 October,” Queensland Police confirmed in a statement to news.com.au.

Police said reports arrived around 1:40pm regarding a tinny that had capsized because of the dangerous operation of nearby jet skis. Officers then assisted the uninjured boys, aged 14 and 10, with recovering the boat.

The footage shows the jet skis maneuvering close to the tinny before water sprays toward the smaller vessel. The alarming sequence prompted an angry response from people familiar with the area.

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate described the incident as “unfathomable” during a press conference earlier today. He also confirmed that he would examine whether additional security measures were needed in the area.

Tate said he planned to speak with Queensland Police, particularly the water police, about whether they had sufficient resources. He also raised the possibility of installing more cameras to help secure prosecutions and deter similar conduct.

The mayor said he hoped available footage could reveal who was responsible and help authorities capture them. Police, however, had already confirmed identifying and intercepting the two operators involved in the marine incident.

Gold Coast man Robert Collin recorded the footage and sharply criticized the riders’ actions. He also said the tinny capsized at the same location where bull sharks had been caught only a few weeks earlier.

“The jetskis were very aggressive towards tinny and didn’t bother to see if the two young victims were OK after rolling the boat,” Collin told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Collin also pointed to another danger visible after the vessel rolled. “The propeller was still spinning and the kids could have easily been trapped or knocked out and drowned.”

According to Collin, the incident was not the first time he had witnessed this kind of behavior in the area. He branded what happened “pure stupidity,” a description that matched the fury spreading among locals after the footage surfaced.

Social media users called for serious consequences, including the removal of the teenagers’ jet skis. “They need to take their jet skis and cars, this behaviour is not on,” one person said.

Another commenter demanded accountability, saying, “It is about time these idiots were held accountable.”

A separate local claimed, “This happens every weekend at the Nerang boat ramp,” reflecting broader frustration about conduct in the area.
