Dylan Sprouse has shared a startling family discovery involving his twin brother, Cole Sprouse, after exploring their heritage through the genealogy program Ancestry.

The actor ultimately joked that the brothers are “children of incest” because branches of their family apparently connected through marriage more than once, as reported by Page Six.

Dylan discussed the unusual findings on Tuesday’s episode of the “Wildmen Podcast.” He explained that the genealogy research introduced him to relatives he had never met, particularly on his father’s side of the family.

“I’ve found a lot of family members, weirdly, who I never met, because my dad’s side of the family is pretty fractured. I started to talk to them, compare and contrast,” Dylan explained.

Dylan, 34, said he discovered that both sides of his family were living in California during the Gold Rush. According to the actor, the two families had joined together through marriage by the 1800s.

The family lines later separated before connecting once again through the marriage of Dylan and Cole’s parents. That unexpected reunion gave the family tree a shape that Dylan found both strange and amusing.

“And then they diverged, and then they married again [through] my mom and my dad,” Dylan revealed while describing the family history.

Dylan said he called Cole to share the “f–king crazy” discovery. However, the “Riverdale” alum apparently had little interest in hearing the full revelation and hung up on his twin brother.

The Ancestry findings were not Dylan’s only reason for questioning the family’s history. He said he “started to get suspicious” after learning that his father’s uncles were identical twins.

Before that discovery, Dylan had believed the family’s tendency to produce twins came entirely from his mother’s relatives. The number of twins appearing across the generations made the pattern especially striking to him.

“I’d only ever thought that identical twins or twins in general came from my mom’s side of the family,” Dylan explained. “We had seven sets of twins in four generations. Which is crazy.”

Dylan then offered his own blunt explanation for why twins appeared so frequently throughout the family. “And the reason we have a lot of twins is because it’s the same family!” he exclaimed.

The “Suite Life of Zack & Cody” star continued leaning into the uncomfortable humor surrounding his family tree. Despite his dramatic conclusion about the family’s heritage, Dylan promised he does not “have webbed toes.”

He also shared another startling piece of family lore involving one of his aunts. According to Dylan, the aunt had been a twin, but the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy and a later medical discovery were especially unusual.

“One of my aunts was a twin, but she was one of the twins who ate her twin in the womb, and when they cut open a cyst in her shoulder, it had teeth and hair,” he said.

After recounting the repeated family marriages, the seven sets of twins and the story involving his aunt, Dylan reduced the complicated history to one provocative punchline. He concluded, “Long story short, Cole and I are children of incest.”

Dylan and Cole became famous as child actors, with their most notable roles coming through the hit Disney Channel comedy series “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” Dylan played Zack, while Cole portrayed Cody.

Dylan’s family recently grew in a different way. Last month, he and his wife, Barbara Palvin, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Sylvie.

Before Palvin, 33, walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Sunday, Dylan said Sylvie had already reached several milestones. Those developments included becoming able to recognize faces.

The new father also revealed that his daughter has begun reacting positively to his humor. “She’s smiling and laughing at my jokes,” Dylan told E! News. “Which is all a dad can really dream of.”
