Hilary Duff apparently takes loyalty seriously. The singer revealed that a boy who treated one of her friends badly once became the target of a messy prank involving cheap canned food and his front lawn, as reported by Us Magazine.
“This guy was doing my friend real dirty and we were hitting the bottle,” Duff, 39, said in an interview with Billboard published on Tuesday, November 3.
“We were spicy and we went and bought the cheapest, grossest can of wieners and tuna and we just had a little field day on his front lawn.”
Duff did not identify the friend involved or provide additional details about the boy. She did, however, explain that the incident occurred during her “late teen-hood,” before she became a mother.

The “Come Clean” singer also offered a colorful description of what her nights with friends could involve at the time. “I’m, like, spicy, so my spicy nights [are] kind of evil,” she explained.
Duff is now the mother of four children. She shares daughters Banks, 8, Mae, 5, and Townes, 2, with her husband, Matthew Koma, and son Luca, 14, with her ex Mike Comrie.
Her story about defending a friend arrived after another recent gathering with women in her circle. Duff traveled to Mexico with a group of friends for some downtime at the One&Only Mandarina resort in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit.
The group included Mandy Moore, What’s Cooking Gabby author Gaby Dalkin, makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan Fisher and skincare professional Whitney Wagner Hartley. Artist Amanda Lillywhite, Better Babies founder Janice Gott and influencer Haylee Christine also joined the trip.

Duff documented the getaway through an Instagram carousel posted on October 10. “The group chat made it to the jungle,” the actress wrote alongside images showing the celebrity mothers enjoying their stay at the luxury resort, located in a coastal rainforest.
Several photographs showed Duff wearing a yellow one piece swimsuit with a high cut design. Other images captured her sipping from coconuts beside the water and playing mahjong with her friends during the trip.
The Mexico vacation came less than a year after Ashley Tisdale French, a former member of Duff’s mom group, published an essay about leaving what she described as a toxic circle. The essay appeared in New York Magazine’s The Cut.
Tisdale French, 41, titled the essay “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.” She shares daughters Jupiter, 5, and Emerson, 2, with her husband, Christopher French.
The January essay drew attention after Tisdale French alleged that she felt “frozen out” by the group. She also claimed that she had not been invited to multiple gatherings.
“I told myself it was all in my head, and it wasn’t a big deal,” Tisdale French wrote. “And yet, I could sense a growing distance between me and the other members of the group.”
Tisdale French did not identify any of the women in her essay. Despite the lack of names, social media users speculated that Duff and Moore, 42, were among the mothers she had been discussing.
Duff eventually responded to the controversy during a February 25 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. Speaking with host Alex Cooper, she disputed what had been written and described the emotional impact of seeing the essay.

“It sucks to read something that’s not true, and it sucks on behalf of six women and all of their lives,” Duff told Cooper. “I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad. I was pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just sad.”
Duff’s latest comments offered a different glimpse into her approach to friendship, this time through a story from her teenage years. According to her account, one friend’s mistreatment inspired a late-night purchase of cheap wieners and tuna, followed by an unpleasant scene on a boy’s lawn.
