Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., celebrated another decisive election victory by unloading on President Donald Trump, even as federal authorities continue examining her personal finances and immigration history. Omar won reelection Tuesday with more than 76% of the vote, as reported by Fox News.
Speaking to supporters early Wednesday, Omar said Democratic victories across the country delivered a message to “the bigot in the White House and his friends that we are not going to be a pawn in their game.”
Her remarks continued the bitter public feud between the Minnesota Democrat and Trump. The president has previously called Omar “garbage,” a “disaster,” and a “disgrace to our country.”

Trump has also said Omar should “go back” to Somalia. Omar became a U.S. citizen in 2000 and has repeatedly emerged as a target of the president’s criticism.
The congresswoman maintained her streak of landslide general election victories in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, described as one of the bluest congressional districts in the country. Her two federal criminal investigations apparently did not keep voters from backing her.
Both investigations became public just over three weeks before Election Day. One probe is examining whether Omar fraudulently obtained U.S. citizenship, while another is focused on possible discrepancies in her financial disclosures.
During her victory speech, Omar appeared to reference Operation Metro Surge, which deployed thousands of federal immigration officers primarily to Minneapolis and St. Paul for removal operations. The operation faced fierce local resistance and large protests.

Two protesters, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were killed during the protests. Federal immigration agents were also photographed tackling and arresting a protester in Minneapolis on Feb. 3, 2026.
“When this administration came for Minnesotans, we knew that we could respond by showing up in the streets and protecting our neighbors, but we also knew when Election Day came that we were going to provide an answer by directly rejecting them in the ballot box,” Omar said.
Omar portrayed the investigations as an effort by the White House to frighten her and those supporting her. Her electoral margin, however, gave her plenty of room to claim that the pressure had failed at the ballot box.

“When they decided that they were going to come for me, they thought that they were going to find someone who was going to cower,” Omar said. “They thought they were going to find a community that was going to live in fear. They thought that if you attacked me and you silenced me, that my community wouldn't show up and vote.”
The Minnesota Democrat also highlighted Democratic victories in Senate races in Ohio, Maine and Texas. She argued those results demonstrated a backlash against Trump administration policies during the previous two years.
Omar closed her remarks by echoing Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., who responded to the Democratic wave by saying the Trump family should “lawyer up.” Garcia is set to become chairman of the House Oversight Committee in January after Democrats retook the House.
As chairman, Garcia will lead a committee with subpoena power to compel testimony and obtain documents. Omar seized on that coming authority to warn that congressional scrutiny of the Trump administration and the president’s family is on the way.
“He said, 'You better lawyer up.' Because your time of harassment is over. It is our time for accountability and transparency. And if you thought that the Democrats took it easy on you in 2019, wait until you meet these kind of new Democrats,” Omar said.
Omar’s overwhelming victory showed that the investigations did not break her support in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. Instead, she used election night to attack Trump, denounce the probes and promise a more aggressive Democratic majority in the House.
