‘The View’ debuted earlier today for its 23rd season; and it started with a bang.
It was rumored online that conservative co-host Meghan McCain was considering leaving the show. But now it seems those rumors were untrue, as she made her triumphant return to ‘The View’ today along with co-hosts Abby Huntsman, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, and Sunny Hostin.
McCain blasted “gun grabbers” when the topic turned to the most recent tragedy in Midland, Texas. Her co-hosts predictably blamed the NRA for the recent string of shootings–but McCain jumped in to defend law-abiding gun owners.

She said, “As the chick on the panel that spent most of her break shooting, I look forward to talking about this.”
The daughter of the late Senator John McCain explained that she spent her summer in Wyoming with her husband, shooting guns, fishing, and living the “redneck life.” She argued that allowing politicians to take away law-abiding citizens weapons is not the answer to preventing future tragedies.
“Beto O’Rourke wants to have a complete and total — I call it ‘gun-grabbing’ — but he wants to have a mandatory gun buyback,” McCain said. “It just doesn’t seem like that’s rational conversation.”
The other women on the panel responded by groaning. But McCain didn’t stop.
She said, “The AR-15 is by far the most popular gun in America.” Taking them away would “create a lot of violence,” she said, adding, “I’m not living without guns.”
The audience, which appeared to be full of left-wingers, made it clear that they didn’t agree with McCain. She turned to them directly and said, “Alright, welcome back … It’s going to be quite a season, folks.”
“I’m not living without guns!” Meghan McCain says, right after suggesting newspapers create a “gun beat” — because, you know, mass shootings can’t be stopped so let’s make sure to be accurate when describing the guns used to kill people. pic.twitter.com/y6eCq8j59w

McCain explained as a “life member” of the NRA, she has “a lot of problems with the way the money’s being allocated,” but she unequivocally supports their fight for “Second Amendment rights.” She said, “This is a ground-level issue for me. If you’re going to be a gun-grabber, you don’t get my vote.”

At this point, McCain is the only co-host who has been willing to stick up for conservative views on most topics on the show. Even though Abby Hunstman’s father was a Republican, she typically hasn’t taken strong stances on any topics of controversy.
