Actress Goldie Hawn says she has stepped away from starring roles in recent years because she has not found a project that meets her standards, though she remains open to returning to the screen under the right circumstances, as reported by Fox News.

In a recent interview with People, Hawn addressed her absence from major film roles since her appearance in “The Christmas Chronicles 2” in 2020, where she starred alongside her longtime partner Kurt Russell. She said the deciding factor for any future role would be the quality of the material.

“It's about the content,” Hawn said. “It has to do with the content. Acting for acting's sake, taking things… I've read a lot of shows, a lot of scripts that I didn't like, or I didn't think I'd fit.”

Hawn explained that at this stage in her life and career, she is not interested in taking on projects unless they strongly appeal to her.

“The one thing about acting is that I've done it, and I had a great career, and I honor that,” she said. “I would love to get a material that could actually be like, ‘Oh my God, I want this so bad. This is so funny. She's so crazy. She's so interesting.' But I haven't come across it.”

She added that she would consider returning if the right opportunity presented itself. “If somebody came up with a really cool, funny script… I think it would be great,” Hawn said.

Hawn’s daughter, actress Kate Hudson, has discussed the possibility of writing a project that would bring both Hawn and Russell together on screen. Hawn responded positively to the idea.

“I would love that. And the two of us have thought a lot about it,” she said.

Hawn shares children Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson with her former husband Bill Hudson. Russell has a son, Boston Russell, from his previous marriage to Season Hubley. Hawn and Russell, who began their relationship in 1983, also have a son together, Wyatt Russell.

In the interview, Hawn also reflected on her long-term relationship with Russell, which has spanned more than four decades. She said she continues to value the sense of independence and balance in their relationship.

“When I say freedom, it means liberation. I don't feel penned in,” Hawn said. “We don't always agree on stuff, which is fine. We're both very spontaneous. [Our relationship] fed on a lot of goodness, a lot of wonderful life together.”

Hawn also spoke about her outlook on life as she approaches a new phase. The actress turned 80 in November and is preparing to release her first children’s book, “The After-School Kindness Crew: Pooch on the Loose,” co-written with Lin Oliver, on May 5.

“My life's mission is to be happy. My life's mission is to be an example for my children and my family,” Hawn said. “As you get older, things can get harder. Your state of mind matters. How you look at life matters, how you value moments in your life matters, because you're feeding your own brain. So, I say, ‘Right now, everything is amazing.'”

Hawn indicated that while she has not ruled out future acting roles, any return to film would depend on finding a project that aligns with her interests and creative expectations.
