A Los Angeles medical center is responding after a nurse practitioner affiliated with the hospital reportedly posted comments on social media appearing to express disappointment that the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner was unsuccessful, as reported by Fox News.
According to reports, Matthew Shaffer, who is identified on the website for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles as a nurse practitioner, responded to a social media post discussing the April 25 shooting at the Washington Hilton.
The original post, reportedly made by social media user Jason Cosler, stated, “Someone missed again? Who is hiring these people.”
Shaffer allegedly replied to the comment by writing, “Up your game, people.”

The exchange quickly spread online and drew criticism from social media users, including radio host Doug Wagner, who publicly questioned the appropriateness of the remarks from someone working in the medical field.
“@CedarsSinai So, are you good with an RN of yours cheering on the assassination of the President?” Wagner wrote online. “What if someone who is clearly a Trump supporter is in your hospital? Think maybe he could kill that person. You down with that?”

Shaffer’s LinkedIn profile reportedly lists him as a full-time nurse practitioner with Cedars-Sinai Medical Group beginning in March.
The controversy stems from the April 25 shooting at the Washington Hilton during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, which President Trump attended as president.
Authorities arrested Cole Tomas Allen following the shooting after investigators said he opened fire at the hotel during the event.
According to Fox News Digital, Allen allegedly intended to target Trump administration officials during the attempted attack, citing law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.
Allen is currently facing multiple federal charges, including attempting to assassinate the president of the United States, transporting a firearm across state lines, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Federal prosecutors said Allen could face life in prison if convicted.
According to Allen’s LinkedIn profile, he graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills in May 2025 with a master’s degree in computer science.
Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to Shaffer for comment regarding the social media post but did not immediately receive a response.
The incident comes as social media activity by medical professionals and other public-facing employees continues to draw scrutiny, particularly when posts involve political violence or comments targeting elected officials.
